This is a very intensive, 8-week subject knowledge enhancement course for those beginning initial teacher training in Secondary English. You will cover a range of relevant subject knowledge content to prepare you to teach at key stages 3, 4 and 5.
This course combines taught sessions with distance learning across the eight weeks. This allows time for carefully chosen reading in preparation for taught sessions which will cover: a chronology of English literature and language; grammar required to teach the National Curriculum; key authors and movements in English literature; key non-fiction texts; language change and development.

Am I eligible for this SKE course?
To be eligible trainees must:
- Not already hold qualified teacher status.
- Have agreement from their ITT provider that they should attend. (i.e. it needs to be a condition of a PGCE offer)
Funding

(Please note those with a 3rd class or ordinary degree are not eligible for a bursary. No bursary funding can be paid until the final degree grade is verified.)
Bursary payments are made monthly with the first month in arrears.

Sessions take place at the University’s Walsall Campus. Sessions usually run between 9am and 4pm.
