A Common Thread

This reflective practice responds to the concept of a multi-faceted self – the web of identity tethering the fabric of self. It is a study of duality – the self ‘Becoming’ and ‘UnBecoming’ referencing body and soul, origins and futures, immersion and release, light and dark.

Inspiration is found in Marcel Duchamp’s linear ‘Three Standard Stoppages’ where the line is finite, constrained but infinitely descriptive. Increasingly, the work leans towards a spare use of form, mark and space, citing Agnes Martin, Christopher le Brun and Rupert Spira’s work, to align with Howard Hodgkin’s description of creative practice as ‘thought embedded in material’, expressed here in glass, ceramic and paint.

What is exhibited is a growing reconciliation of ‘self, acceptable to self’ and ‘artist, acceptable to self’.
