Paul Gallagher

"P. Gallagher has spent the year working closely with several circus troupes, documenting their adventures as they performed across the country. He doesn't limit himself to a single field and strives to deliver for every project he takes on. - from movie stills to protest coverage, and anything else that catches his attention. Following the style of gonzo journalism, Paul aims to capture the essence of the event and share the exotic lifestyles of those he is documenting."

In recent work P. Gallagher has been fusing his knowledge of the circus, riot history and fire to create a series of mixed media works on riot shields exploring the role of himself as a field photographer. This project is a forensic style analysis of becoming embedded within the troupes. Drawing on years of work alongside the circus community as they perform up and down the country. Following the style of gonzo journalism, he wants to capture the heart of the event with his camera, and platforming a lifestyle which seems exotic, technical, dangerous, and unknown to the outsider.

The Photographs have been printed onto two 6ft public order riot shields and one circular shield. it is showcasing the armoured side to the vulnerable bare side as the photographer faces the fire of being in the front lines of the mission at hand.
We take the risks and roll the dice as we follow those who are the tip of the spear for what they are challenged with. Our job as photojournalist is to highlight what is happening in some of the most challenging environments to bring truth to the public.
