Liberty Steventon

"Liberty is a UK-based photographer focusing primarily on capturing documentary and street photography through both analogue and digital mediums. Her main goal within her work is to challenge themes often occurring within societal judgment or misconception. One of the most crucial elements of Liberty’s artistic practice as a whole is the process her work undergoes, no matter the contexts. While the preparation of work is often overlooked, the progression from developing the negatives personally, and then creating the images over a period of time is crucial in recognising the importance of every image."

Liberty specializes in everyday street photography, using a combination of analogue and digital formats. Her current project aims to encourage her audience to reconsider the way they view and process different moments in their lives as they move from place to place, drawing particular attention to elements people are prone to forget. Liberty believes that even the slightest changes of scenery have something new to teach, and there is always something new to learn about the same street you pass every day. In this project, the importance of darkroom processes adds an extra element of progression within Liberty’s practice, as she questions the role of time itself by allowing herself as the photographer to spend even more time with the image and witness it further develop in her conscience.
