"I am a Glass and Ceramics Artist with a keen interest in the beauty of prop creation. I have always been inspired by Japanese Harajuku subculture, which is a pervasive theme throughout my work. My aim is to share the fun and expressive nature of Harajuku using my own perspective."

I have always been enchanted by Japan, its cultural history and mysticism has always been a prominent interest in my life. The bright and bold aesthetics of Japan’s Harajuku scene has always deeply fascinated me. Harajuku fashion is a movement against strict societal rules and the pressure to fit in, and these trends provide a space for free expression. Indeed, it has paved the way for multiple subcultures and styles. Japanese Fashion has always been a keen interest of mine as I enjoy following Harajuku fashion magazines such as Shoichi Aoki’s magazine ‘FRUITS’. This has been an overarching theme in my artistic work as my work focuses on presenting the quirky, fun and kitsch nature of our world, while using bright interesting colours and outlandish forms.

I chose to create exaggerated Ceramic and Glass versions of sweet treat food. The pieces evoke a sense of fun and nostalgia; it also subverts expectations and plays with the viewer's perception. Cakes are often associated with celebrations, joy, and special occasions. By incorporating bright colours into my ceramic cakes, it stirs up a sense of festivity and creates an atmosphere of happiness. My choices of colours represent the joyful and playful nature of Harajuku culture. By crafting pancakes out of ceramic and cherries out of glass, I have played with the viewer's expectations, subverting the familiar and transforming it into something unusual and unexpected.
