Bethany Wilcox

"Hello, I’m Beth and I have always had a love for textiles and creating. I have always had a passion for anything crafty since I was little. I have studied textiles for the past 8 years from GCSE to A Level then now as a degree. During this time I have built on my sewing skills and during Covid 19 I spent the majority of my time making face masks, which then moved onto me doing craft fairs, setting up social media and creating accounts on Etsy and Depop. I moved onto making scrunchies, makeup bags and reusable face wipes in my spare time alongside my studies. This is something I wish to peruse in the future and use my new found skills from my degree and quilt making to build my business into something bigger."

For my final project I have focussed on my own mental health journey and how my dog has been a massive part of this. I have created some quirky looking quilts that could be used as bed toppers or runners. These quilts are bright and bold to evoke the sense of happiness and show there is always a positive side to all the darkness. I have found ways to portray me and my dog through the quilts for example incorporating her first blankets from when I bought her home as well as backing one with faux Dalmatian fur. Collaging is a way of working I particularly enjoy and therefore I have created a digital collection to run alongside my quilts as both are intertwined as I work in a very spontaneous random manner.
