Living Well with Dementia

This research cluster aims to improve the lives of people living with dementia and their families in our diverse society across the dementia care pathway.  Currently, there are approximately 944,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this figure is expected to rise to 1.1 million cases by 2030. In 2022 it was evidenced as the leading cause of death in England and Wales. The health inequalities in dementia care are well evidenced with research demonstrating those from under-served communities experiencing huge disparity and inequity in support services.

Current areas of research include:

  • Dementia in ethnic minorities.
  • Non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Post-diagnostic support.
  • Pain assessment in Emergency Care Settings.
  • Education and training: Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in dementia care.
  • Participatory research methods for coproduction.
  • Place-based models of dementia support.
  • Food and diet in dementia care.
  • Equitable access to dementia services.
