Researchers within the Centre for Transnational and Transcultural Research bring together a number of disciplines to investigate internationalism, cosmopolitanism, and other ways of thinking about culture and identity, in history and in the present. RiCH: Cluster for Research in Cultures and Humanities

Centre for Film, Media, Discourse and Culture

The centre draws on research staff  from the School of Media and School of Humanities and seeks to understand how different people are represented in society in the areas of discourse, cultural and media studies.

Centre for Historical Research

Staff within the Centre for Historical Research are building bridges between Past and researching a variety of subjects including early modern and modern conflicts, retailing, distribution and consumption history, terrorism, terrorism prevention and child forced labour in modern war.

CHORD: Centre for the History of Retailing and Distribution

CHORD builds upon the interests and expertise of a number of scholars in the Centre for Historical Research studying the history of retailing and distribution.

Law Research Centre

Law research staff are at the heart of a vibrant and inclusive law research community containing a number of specialist groups: Corporate, Financial, Insolvency, Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, Policing, Anti-terrorism, Human Rights, ADR and Mediation, and Property Law.

CISPP: Central Institute for the Study of Public Protection

CHSCI: Centre for Health and Social Care Improvement

Research work in CHSCI focuses on the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, promoting health, and social wellbeing. RIHS: Research Institute in Healthcare Science

The Research Institute in Healthcare Science (RIHS) is a cross-school initiative supporting interdisciplinary research in the niche areas of healthcare science activities. There is a distinctive emphasis trying to ensure that the findings of academic research are quickly and effectively translated into clinical practice.

Neuro-oncology Research Centre

RCSEP: Research Centre for Sport, Exercise and Performance

Two research clusters within RCSEP develop research into the complexities associated with the issues of performance and health in sport, exercise, and dance.

Built Environment, Information Systems, and Learning Technology Research Centre

The purpose of this centre is to research aspects of engineering, information systems, the built environment, and sustainability. RIILP: Research Institute in Information and Language Processing

RIILP brings together two complementary and interdisciplinary research teams that explore the potential of advanced computing technologies for ‘understanding’ human language and social sciences, respectively.

Education Observatory 

The Education Observatory aims to undertake research in all areas of education and allied areas of social policy to secure social justice and regional transformation in the West Midlands.  Its objectives are to:

 Undertake high quality research and consultancy, which

  • informs debate and has impact on practice and policy, and
  • encourages collaborations among researchers, practitioners, policy-makers and other local, regional, and national stakeholders.
