I am a local resident living about 5-10 miles from campus and use public transport to get to and from campus. It has always been my dream to attend university and finally I in 2018, after attending Open Day and applying to study BA (Hons) Politics and History. How much do I love university and my degree? I love it that much that I sit in on extra classes and sample next year's classes so I can make the right choice in modules for me. After undergraduate I went onto postgraduate and now I'm hoping to continue onto PhD. Prior to starting my PhD I worked full time in the public sector, so coming back to education felt like a big transition, but there is a lovely welcoming community here which made it a much smoother experience. My road through education has been unconventional, only ever getting a pass pass in my BTEC course, I was able to start my journey on a HND information technology course here at the university.   As this is the first 2 years of a regular undergraduate course and I was able to prove to my academics that I was capable of the workload, I was able to move onto the final year of the undergraduate course where I achieved a First Class in Computer Science.
During this time, I became a mature student, as well as moving away from home for the first time and working several jobs to support myself both in and outside of university, as both a lecturer, teacher and union representative.   I have now started my Master's and predicted to achieve a 1st class again.
In addition, I run several different societies, am involved in several more and organise days out for other students.
