The Black Country Further Mathematics Centre, based in the University of Wolverhampton’s
School of Computing and Information Technology, supports the mathematical potential of students from across the Black Country and beyond. Students receive their tuition at the University, in their schools and even via online interactive sessions.
Further Mathematics is traditionally regarded as a demanding A-level, but uptake has increased so much over the last few years that it is now the fastest growing A-level.
Centre Manager and Senior Lecturer Martyn Parker, of the School of Computing and Information Technology, said: “Further Mathematics is vitally important for students interested in taking subjects like engineering, sciences, computing, economics and maths at university. The Centre aims to ensure that any student who wants to take Further Maths has the opportunity to do so. The students have all worked very hard this year and deserve their results.”
More than 40 students have taken Further Mathematics this year through the Centre, including Gail Bowen, Trisha Patel, Patrick O’Sullivan and John Fryer. Schools taking part in the scheme this year include Highfields, Smestow, Willenhall, Droitwich Spa, Pool Hayes, George Salter and Moseley Park.
