Preparing your thesis for deposit
When your thesis is deposited in The University of Wolverhampton’s Open Access Repository, WIRE, it is made available to the public (and can be found by a Google Search).
Legally, it will be viewed as 'published'. This means that you need to have permission to use any copyrighted material (‘third-party’ material) you have included, or this material needs to be removed from your e-thesis. It can, however, remain in the hardcopy, examination version of your thesis as this is considered unpublished.
Here’s some information to help you keep your thesis legal.
When can I legally use copyrighted material?
Consider:
- Can I use the material under a copyright ‘exception’?
- Has the copyright expired?
- Do I already have permission?
