Want to find out how to win a £50 voucher?

Well you've come to the wrong place - it looks like you've fallen for a QR phishing scam! Don't be alarmed though, this isn't a real QR phishing scam, we're just highlighting how easy it is to fall for these types of cyber attacks. Criminals are continuously finding clever and unique ways to obtain data from unsuspecting victims. Thankfully there are a few things you can do to ensure your safety against these types of scams for the future.

Check the QR code URL link before pressing on it.

Did you check the QR code URL before you followed the link? Remember, if you do not recognise the URL link provided by a QR code, or it doesn't match with what you're expecting the website to be, DO NOT CLICK ON IT. It may result in you being brought to a website hosting malicious content, and you may potentially fall prey to a cyber attack.

Scammers may entice you with the prospect of money or rewards for following their QR codes. They may also replace existing QR codes that are displayed around the University. Always check the URL web address of a QR code before you click on the link. If it doesn't look right, trust your instinct and don't press the link.

We're all human, we all make mistakes, but by adopting these small habits in our daily lives we can be assured that we are safer against cyber attacks for the future.
