University of Wolverhampton proudly represented at the Queer Student Awards
The event took place at Birmingham Town Hall on Wednesday 26 June and was attended by Aisha James-Smith, Co-Chair of the LGBTQ+ staff network representing the University as a finalist in the University of the Year category; along with Queer Role Model of the Year nominee Sam McCracken, LGBTQIA+ Student Liberation Representative from Wolves SU.
Aisha said: "It was a pleasure to represent the university at the 2024 Queer Student Awards where we were nominated for University of the Year. As a university, we are committed to improving the experiences of our LGBTQIA+ students and staff, and this nomination for a national award shows we are moving in the right direction."
Sam said: " Whilst we sadly didn't win in any of our categories this time, nominations were given anonymously from students, staff and the wider community/public, so for us all to have been finalists for a national award is just incredible!"
Sam added: "I'd like to highlight a new initiative launching on 5 February next year, called "National Queer Students Day" which is designed for students to have a Pride, or other similar events on campus, which will co-inside with LGBT History Month."
