The module aims to develop your understanding of the sports industry and the position of coaching within it, both in the UK and internationally. You will also discuss cultural and societal processes involved in coaching and how recent developments, trends, and initiatives have affected the coaching workforce. You will have an opportunity to discuss and evaluate a range of research methods to collect and review data on the coaching workforce and will explore the workforce in a chosen setting.
You will identify your current knowledge, experience and interests in a selected area of study and create an action plan to support your progression into Higher Education. You will describe how your previous experiences have provided a platform for you to study sport at university. This will provide a basis to create and develop an action plan for your first year of study. In doing so, you will develop your ability to retrieve information and improve your communication skills.
This module encourages you to consider your career goals and aspirations and understand what is required to secure graduate-level employment in your selected industry. You will explore the local job market to understand what skills and experiences employers value. You will complete a range of tasks that enable you to understand where you currently are in developing a relevant skill set in relation to what is required. You will develop an action plan that will enable you to work towards your career goals.
Module content will focus on learning field tests and observational methods to assess movement analysis in the context of coaching. This will then transfer to observing coaches and athletes interact and applying sport science theory and research methods to this interaction. Finally, you will be required to develop this knowledge into an experiment and write up your findings using the scientific method.
The module aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the skills needed to manage sport coaching events. Such events may include tournaments, fundraisers and team events (team selection camp and end of year award ceremony). This module will help develop students' skills focusing on policies, procedures, and practices involved in planning, organising, staffing and operations related to the sporting events listed above. Problem-based learning and case studies will be used to support students learning in this module.
This module introduces you to the role of the coach in a participatory sport& nbsp;and activity context. You will experience& nbsp;and examine the coaching process and acquire basic pedagogical skills through planning, delivering and evaluating sessions. You will be expected to micro-coach, working with a peer mentor to support your development.
The module aims to develop your ability to use technology to analyse performance. You will learn how to develop a system to& nbsp;analyse& nbsp;performance using Dartfish software. You will also learn how to perform statistical analysis on data to inform and enhance performance.
The module aims to develop your awareness and understanding of the importance of individual philosophy and ethically based practice in coaching and pedagogical contexts. You will explore methodologies that will enable you to understand, communicate and utilise your own individual philosophy& nbsp;and identify ethical practice. You will explore how identified philosophies may direct coaching practice.& nbsp; You will engage in activities designed to develop and stimulate reflective practice.
The purpose of this module is to develop your applied research and insight skills. You will explore a range of issues within sport from a multi-disciplinary perspective, developing your understanding of the research process in an applied manner. You will examine potential solutions to the issues under investigation, exploring how research and insight can help to develop understanding and encourage innovation within your subject discipline. This module underpins the Professional Project module at Level 6. In this module, you will start to develop a Professional Project idea which will become the focus of your Level 6 Professional Project.
This module aims to develop the ability to create knowledge in sports coaching. You will carry out experiments using small changes in previously published experiments. You will be expected to use a ‘building block’ philosophy to develop knowledge. Choice of the experiment and its impact on sports coaching will be a common theme. It is expected that this knowledge construction will allow you to be able to be a leader in the field of sports coaching – carving out an area of expertise and developing your reputation in sports coaching
This module requires you to undertake a work-based placement related to your career aspirations. You will develop your identity as a professional in your field, including a set of values, skills, and attributes required for graduate employment. You will build on your understanding and self-awareness developed at Level 4 to negotiate a set of developmental goals that will enhance your employability. Both during and following your placement, you will reflect on your learning and heightened self-awareness of areas for further development. You will develop your capacity to articulate your readiness for employment to others.
