BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science with Sandwich placement

This course is a well-established IBMS accredited degree on which you will be taught by tutors who are experts their fields including areas such as diabetes, physiology, molecular medicine, cancer, brain tumours, microbiology and molecular immunology. Close links are maintained with local and regional NHS Trusts to ensure that the skills you gain are in line with professional working methods and Biomedical Science practitioners are part of the teaching team to ensure that your course content relates to the current pathology laboratory practice.

As a graduate in Biomedical Science you will be able to:

• Understand the factors and processes which contribute to human health and disease
• Demonstrate your knowledge of human form and function, physiology, biochemistry, molecular pathology and the biology and investigation of disease
• Apply your knowledge to critical analyse, interpret and critically evaluate biomedical data
• Demonstrate laboratory skills and knowledge of planning and designing experiments and execute independent research based on data generation in challenging learning opportunities
• To take responsibility for your own learning, foster a spirit of enquiry, and develop attitudes and skills to underpin independent, life-long learning
• Use effectively transferable skills in communication, IT, numeracy and data analysis, team working, critical thinking, setting tasks, problem solving and self-management and achieve to the maximum of your ability
• Exercise professionalism, personal responsibility and decision-making as needed for employment or further studies and in other situations
• Demonstrate graduate attributes of Digital Literacy, Knowledgeable and Enterprising, and Global Citizenship.

GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or above. Equivalents accepted for English GCSE requirements only 

If you do not hold a GCSE grade C/4+ in Mathematics you will be strongly advised to complete your Mathematics GCSE alongside your studies at the University.

Students wishing to take a hospital laboratory placement as part of the Applied Biomedical Science route must have GCSE Maths at C/4 or above or, Level 2 Essential / Key Skill in Application of Number or an equivalent mathematics qualification.

PLUS EITHER

• 96 UCAS points
• A Levels - grades CCC / BCD to include at least one Science subject, preferably Biology
• BTEC L3 Extended Diploma or OCR Cambridge L3 Technical Extended Diploma - grades MMM in Applied Science
• Access to HE Diploma: 45 Level 3 credits at Merit, 36 of these must be in Science

Your employer, embassy or organisation can pay for your Tuition fees:

If your employer, embassy or organisation agrees to pay all or part of your tuition fees; the University will refer to them as your sponsor and will invoice them for the appropriate amount.

We must receive notification of sponsorship in writing as soon as possible, and before enrolment, confirming that the sponsor will pay your tuition fees.

Financial Hardship:

Students can apply to the Dennis Turner Opportunity Fund.

for help with course related costs however this cannot be used for fees or to cover general living costs.
