SOLVD CASE STUDY: CKL Office Solutions Ltd 

CKL are an established provider offering a huge range of high-quality furniture into Office, Commercial and Education environments, and have been operating in Telford for over 23 years.

Recently, they identified a need to increase their commercial competitiveness, by providing a more professional and expedient design service. CKL’s current design process is paper-based, which is time consuming to create, and with limited options to quickly amend designs, based upon client requirements or change of requirements.

CKL have previously tried several design software packages, including AutoCAD and Visio, but these were considered overly difficult to use and were not product specific, and have not been embedded into the company’s ‘Business as Usual’ practices.

Strategic Project Objectives: How SOLVD helped CKL 

• We undertook a marketplace review and assessment of currently-available, cost-effective and user-friendly 2D “drag and drop” design packages that can provide more sophisticated/photo-realistic visualisations of the client environments.
• We engaged with furniture manufacturers to build a bespoke library of objects, to optimise the photo-realistic qualities of CKL’s design service.
• We provided 1-2-1 tuition and support to facilitate CKL’s adoption of two new software applications, allowing CKL to quickly undertake an improved design service in-house. This support also included the creation of a bespoke video tutorial, allowing CKL to learn at their own pace.
• We are also investigating the possibility of progressing this collaboration into a longer-term R&D project, taking CKL into a fully-immersive 3D environment, using a Matterport 3D room scanner, and creating the appropriate conditions for CKL to adopt 3D VR visualisation technologies, allowing them to further increase sales and reduce design/iteration timescales.
