On this network security short course, you will develop awareness of the potential threats experienced within computer networks today. 

Through hands-on practical tasks, you will examine the fundamentals of network security and cover topics including active and passive attacks, as well as how to protect against them. Work-related scenarios will provide practical experience relevant to your current or future employment.

By studying this course you will develop confidence in:

  • configuring security equipment and/or securing systems
  • evaluating different types of network security issues in industry, and providing sensible solutions to these threats/problems

The Office for Students (OfS) and the Department for Education (DfE) are collaborating to trial higher education short courses as part of the government’s approach to delivering the Lifelong Loan Entitlement (LLE). University of Wolverhampton is one of just 22 institutions selected for the scheme.

This short course allows you to:

  • sample higher education, without the commitment of a full-time course
  • build credit towards a degree
  • sample a course with real-world challenges designed in collaboration with employers

You will be taught by experts working at the forefront of their field, engaging in cybersecurity research and making a real-world difference to the wider industry. Employment within the cybersecurity sector is likely to grow, meaning that graduates will be likely to gain well-paid roles after qualifying.

This short course provides a sample of higher education, with the option for further progression onto our BSc (Hons) Cybersecurity degree.

BSc (Hons) Cybersecurity aims to give you fundamental knowledge and skills needed to protect organisations, networks, IT systems and individuals against cyber threats, attacks, risks, and vulnerabilities. This course is fully accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, covering essential topics required for an accredited degree in cybersecurity.

The Library provides access to a wide range of online information, including ebooks, electronic journals and subject databases as well as printed material and DVDs. A range of study spaces are available in each of our libraries, including social, quiet and silent areas.

The University Library can also provide you with academic skills support through its Skills for Learning programme. You can attend workshops or ask for one-to-one help on a range of skills such as academic writing and referencing.
