Volunteering Opportunities

Working in theatre goes beyond acting on stage – there are pivotal roles both backstage and front of house that you can now become involved in at the Arena Theatre.

Above all else, we understand that our volunteers can have other time commitments: therefore your volunteering experience is completely up to you – you can give as much, or as little, time to volunteering at the theatre as your schedule allows.

All we ask of our volunteers is that you are 18+ - this is due to the late nights that some of our volunteers will work – there is no age cut off point for our opportunities!

How do I get involved?

If you want to get involved in volunteering at the Arena Theatre, you can declare your initial interest by filling in our expression of interest form (click).

From here, one or both of our Front of House Managers will meet you for a very informal chat to ensure we give you the most fulfilling and enjoyable volunteering opportunity. Included in this will also be a tour of the venue and a little bit more about your role may be.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact one - or both - of our Front of House Managers below.

Kirsty Povey-Dooner – Front of House and Access and Inclusion Manager – K.Povey2@wlv.ac.uk / 01902 322 532

Sam Fleming – Front of House and Education and Outreach Manager – Sam.Fleming@wlv.ac.uk / 01902 322646

What opportunities are available?

Front of House

By becoming a Front of House volunteer, you’ll be on the front-line delivering the best customer service experience to our audience members. Our Front of House team will deliver all of the training you require to guide people to their seats, sell programmes and ensure you’re helping to make their experience as enjoyable as possible.

As one of our ushers, you’ll be answering any queries our audiences may have, showing them where they’re sitting and keeping a watchful eye over our audience. One of the benefits to becoming a Front of House volunteer is you’ll get to see some of the amazing shows we have on!

What can I expect?

The Arena Theatre will:

  • Provide appropriate training and inductions, ensuring you feel involved in the team.
  • Understand other time commitments you may have.
  • Encourage you to develop your skills in other areas.
  • Provide you with a reference for future employment, and support on how to get into theatre.

Our volunteers will:

  • Be punctual.
  • Have a passion for the theatre and the arts in general.
  • Undertake training when appropriate.
