Mental Health Nursing
I have worked in the field of mental health nursing since 1987. I have worked in acute psychiatry, addiction services, prisons and community settings. The focus of my work in the community was supporting service users and their families who experienced enduring mental health difficulties. I have further experience of working for crisis intervention services as well as assertive outreach. Following the completion of my master’s degree at Birmingham University in 2004 I commenced in my current role as a Senior Lecturer. I completed by Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education in 2005. I am a qualified trainer in the management of actual and potential aggression as a level one trainer and am also a trainer for the Behavioural Family Therapy programme.
In my current role I am an academic practice lead for the mental health team and lead on the mental health recruitment and interviewing. I teach on modules across the three year programme with a focus on person centred approaches to nursing, recovery in mental health and leading and managing.
