O’Bryan is a lecturer on the new BA (Hons) Professional Policing degree and the BSc (Hons) in Policing and Intelligence. He has spent 30 years as a police officer with West Midlands Police. He was fortunate to have spent that time within many disciplines from intelligence led to community policing; criminal investigations and crime fighting teams; to contingency and operations planning; road policing and learning and development. He has managed and overseen teams from firearms to diversity and inclusion, as well as contributed to many organisational development programs.
Since 2014 O’Bryan has been delivering on degree level professional Management and Leadership programs with the Chartered Management Institute; Marketing programs through to the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Business Management degree programs whilst based at the Heart of Worcestershire College.

As an operational police officer, time was spent in a number of policing teams from; response policing to neighbhourhood or community policing, Central Traffic and Motorway Departments, to the Operational Support Unit (A force wide response and problem solving team), to managing teams in the delivery of ICT projects, Leadership and Management, initial police officer training to physical and First Aid Training. He lead on the delivery of partnership working across the West Midlands, some regional and national presence on organisational change and policy development. The latter in particular focused on delivering ministrial priorities following the Stephen Lawrence Enquiry. Post policing O'Bryan has provided consultancy working to small and medium sized enterprises on improving performance outcomes and productivity both in the UK and mainland Europe.
