Pre-Registration Adult Nursing, teaching and learning, and Resuscitation.

I qualified from Wolverhampton University as an Adult Registered Nurse in September 2006 and joined the Royal Air Force (RAF), Ministry of Defence as a registered Nurse in December of that year.  During my time in the RAF, I was posted to many geographical locations and gained various clinical experience from rotating through a variety of areas such as Orthopaedics and Rheumatology, Medical Assessment Unit, Surgery and Operating Theatres.  During my 8-9 years in the RAF, I decided to specialise as a Theatre Nurse Practitioner and thoroughly enjoyed the role of Scrub Nurse and Recovery Nurse, working within many surgical specialities including Emergency, Trauma, Vascular and General Surgery.

Following my time served in the Military, I continued to expand on my clinical experience within the Private Healthcare Sector of the Operating theatres environment.  I also worked as a Community Nurse before being posted overseas to Gibraltar to follow my husband’s Military career for 3 years.  During my time in Gibraltar I continued to maintain clinical practice in general Nursing and Emergency Care within the Gibraltar Hospital, whilst also maintaining my UK NMC clinical practice hours by travelling back to the UK and working within Operating theatres of the Private Healthcare Sector.  Whilst living in Gibraltar I also worked part-time for a Gibraltar Mental health charity as Mental health Outreach, which was a great learning experience.

Following my move back to the UK in 2018, I returned to the Theatre Practitioner Nurse role in Salisbury District Hospital before joining Wilshire Healthcare Trust as the Educator and Co-ordinator role in late 2018.  I thoroughly enjoyed this role within education and transferred the experience from this role and skills acquired from previous Nursing roles to become a Resuscitation Officer for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB).  Within the Resuscitation Officer role, I specialised in resuscitation teaching from basic to advanced levels of resuscitation to varied Healthcare Professionals.  As a Resuscitation Officer I was also a core member of the emergency response team for UHB.  During the pandemic, I also expanded my Resuscitation role in my own time by working as a rapid responder for vaccination hubs within the UHB and Hubs around Birmingham.

In 2021 I decided to combine all my teaching and clinical experience to become a Clinical Educator within the Medical Education team for Dudley Group Foundation Trust which involved teaching medical students and supporting them in the clinical environment.  Throughout this role I also delivered teaching to all levels of Doctors, Nurses and allied health care professionals.

I still like to maintain my clinical experience in my own time by working clinical bank shifts within varied NHS Trusts and maintain current resuscitation knowledge by teaching on varied resuscitation courses.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and supporting students and healthcare professionals, therefore commenced in the role as Senior Lecturer within School of Nursing at City campus of Wolverhampton University, where I can continue to support students in the academic environment.
