Enquiry Based Learning.
I am a principal lecturer for education enhancement with over 25 years’ HE experience as a senior academic. I have an Educational Doctorate from the University of Birmingham. The focus of my thesis is enquiry based learning (EBL). I am a registered nurse (adult nursing) and specialist community nurse (district nursing).
In my current role I provide learning, teaching and assessment leadership within health and allied health programmes. I support the development of academic skills and lead initiatives to support innovative and engaging approaches to inclusive curriculum development and review. I also lead staff development opportunities.
I have previously held the positions of Head of learning and teaching and learning and teaching catalyst both of which involved leading and enhancing the quality of the educational experience. I have extensive curriculum development experience across the health and allied health professions.
My research interest is adult learning and in particular enquiry based learning (EBL) as a transformational pedagogy. EBL has gained increasing popularity in higher education and my doctoral research examines EBL within the context of post graduate provision and continuing professional development (CPD) where there is a general understanding that learning should be student-centred and learners should be independent and self-directed.
