I completed my PhD in molecular biochemistry and biophysics, focusing on age-related musculoskeletal degeneration in the lumbar spine. Following my PhD, I worked as a programme officer and researcher in public health at Birmingham City Council for two years. Starting my professional public health career during the Covid-19 pandemic was challenging and exposed me to a range of experiences in a short amount of time. Subsequently, I co-produced and led several international, national, regional and local projects.
My academic and industry background contributes to the broader subject areas of public health and health studies. My areas of expertise include quantitative research methods, statistical analysis, human physiology and biomechanics, health needs assessment, systematic reviews, and epidemiology. They are closely aligned with my research interests which span the human life course.
Broadly, my main responsibilities are to:
- work with colleagues on curriculum development and the advancement of relevant discipline areas within the university.
- deliver teaching over a range of Health Studies modules.
- undertake student tutoring and support.
- contribute to the scholarship, professional practice and enterprise activities and objectives of the Faculty of Education Health & Wellbeing.
- support the academic work of the Faculty of Education Health & Wellbeing.
- engage with cross department roles as appropriate and in agreement with post holder – e.g. catalyst, champion, committee representative etc. and assist with outreach, engagement and recruitment activities.
- deliver teaching, learning and assessment activities on awards/programmes and modules in the subject area.
- Physical activity as preventative medicine
- Biomechanical and physiological differences across the life course
- Biomechanical and physiological indicators of health and disease
- Sarcopenia
- Quantitative statistical analysis
- Signal processing
