Supporting Your Studies
There are several places where you can receive help with your studies including general skills and course content alike. Through a variety of Self Help Guides, drop-in sessions and bookable appointments, the University is able to offer study support from your first week through to your final submission.
It's important to remember that even as a distance learner you are expected to conduct self directed study. Seeking out further reading and additional materials is an important part of study especially at postgraduate level. Alongside our materials and electronic resources you may wish to enrich your studies by using other using other libraries through SCONUL and WorldCat.
Learning and Information Services (LIS) provide a lot more than online journals and e-books for our distance learners; LIS offer non-subject related support and information to supplement your learning. Most people think of LIS simply consists of our on-campus libraries however they offer a lot more than that! As a distance learner there is a wealth of support available to you, and if you live close enough, you can still access our on-campus facilities too.
They can also help you target areas where you may be struggling through Skills for Learning. This includes a wide range of Study Guides to support you through your assessments. On their website you will find further information about everything from academic writing and referencing, through to employability skills.
LIS also offer Assist where you can talk in real time to one of their advisors. Whether you need help finding online resources or researching assignments, this online chat information service is a valuable tool.

Module leaders
Your Module Leaders are your first point of contact for everything module related whether that's help with a particular part of the module or advice on how to complete the assessment. Module Leaders will usually be able to schedule a meeting with you via phone, WebEx or Skype. A list of module leaders is available in your Course Guides, along with their contact details.
Course leaders
The Course Leader has overall responsibility for your course and the enrolled students. They monitor the quality of the course through Course Committees which collect feedback from staff and students. They manage the academic programme of study and are responsible for reporting any issues raised and examples of good practice.
Personal Tutors
A Personal Tutor is allocated to every student. They maintain regular communication with each of their tutees in order to support students who may not be making satisfactory progress or who are at risk of withdrawal. They may assist students in their personal and academic development, planning and progression as well as helping them liaise with other staff and support facilities in their Faculty and the wider University. Student Enabling Tutors
The Faculty Student Enabling Tutor (FSET) liaise with the Student Enabling Centre (SEC) regarding provision for specific disabled students and disseminates information from the SEC on the needs of specific disabled students. The FSET also monitors requests for, and provision of, specific examination and assessment arrangements, publicise FSET ‘surgery’ arrangements and make available time to meet with individual disabled students to enable them to discuss their own faculty-specific disability issues where necessary. The FSET takes a pro-active role in monitoring the welfare and academic progress of disabled students within the school. If required a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) will be completed.
Distance Learning Administrator
Your distance learning administrator can help with WLVglobal queries, module and course queries. If you're not sure who to contact with regards to the help you need, your course administrator will be able to point you in the right direction.
Student Advisors
Student Advisors work within the Faculty and can provide extra support for any student who might be struggling to keep up to date with their work or facing other issues affecting their studies.
The Student Transnational and Research Office (STaR) is the 'local' Student Centre for all of our distance learning students. Here you will find specialist advice on all your course management issues. If you need to change your module registration, apply for mitigating circumstances or take a break in your studies, STaR Office can tell you how.

The Student Enabling Centre provides a range of services to students with sensory, physical or specific learning difficulties. There is even support for students who have applied but have not yet started their course via the Pre Entry Team. Along with providing support and resources they also hold events and activities on-campus which some distance learners may want to attend. Please visit their webpages for further information.
