Racing and Construction skills put to the test

Fans of Scalextric cars and Meccano sets will be able to pit their wits against the experts at a University of Wolverhampton science festival.

Two competitions will form part of the activites at SciFest 2012 at the Wolverhampton City Campus on Saturday, 30 June 2012, with top prizes for the winners.

Scalextric race tracks will be set up for competitive racing, so budding Lewis Hamiltons can compete against their friends and family for the best times.

There will also be opportunities to test their maths skills and calculate their speed, with prizes up for grabs.

Working alongside Telford and Ironbridge Meccano Society, fans of the construction toy will have their chance to win one of ten sets in a competition to test their knowledge.

SciFest is a free week-long event which is designed to enable school pupils from the West Midlands to discover all areas of science and technology.

The festival will culminate in a Public Day on Saturday, 30 June 2012 from 10am to 4pm to coincide with the Olympic torch and Blue Peter being in Wolverhampton.

Derek Walton, Associate Dean from the School of Applied Sciences, said: “SciFest is an opportunity for families to explore the magic of science and technology. We are really grateful to Scalextric and Meccano for donating these great prizes, which will form a fun aspect of what promises to be a great event.”

The Meccano and Scalextric activities will be going on throughout the day.
