English as a Foreign Language courses

The University of Wolverhampton's International Academy offers several kinds of English courses and language support in addition to our Pre-sessional offerings:

The English Language Summer School (short course)

We offer a four week programme based at our Telford campus where you can improve your English skills, enhance your knowledge of a subject of special interest (see below) and visit some of the U.K.'s major tourist attractions in guided weekly excursions. View the course brochure here.

Course content: You will receive 12 hours a week of study in an interactive group setting, covering all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. (Max class size: 22) and have 5 hours per week tuition  in a special interest area:

  • Art and design
  • Broadcasting and the media
  • Intercultural communication
  • Professional communications

Study Semester Abroad (UK)

An exciting opportunity that allows you to study your degree subject while gaining credits from your home university OR study with us post-graduation.

Language support for Undergraduates

All international students arriving at the University of Wolverhampton are offered free English language support as part of their programme.

Language support for Post-graduates

We provide English language support and development opportunities for every international postgraduate student. So that language support is relevant to your subject area, classes are organised by your School.

Summer Programmes

We offer a range of courses through the summer months designed to meet the needs of all kinds of learners of English. Whether you are preparing for university study, to take the IELTS exam or you wish to improve your language skills while experiencing the life and culture of Britain, we have courses to suit you.

Wolverhampton English Proficiency Exam

The Wolverhampton English Proficiency Examination (WEPE) is used to decide if your level of English is good enough to begin a full-time degree course at this university.

You will be examined in four areas:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening
  • Speaking
