New catering facilities in line for top award

21/03/2017

The University of Wolverhampton is hoping to serve up a treat after its £4.9million new catering facilities were shortlisted for a top award.

The City Campus catering facilities were transformed into a modern, stylish outlet last year as part of the University’s Our Vision, Your Opportunity £250 million investment plan.

The refurbished outlet, which also features one of Europe’s biggest Starbucks licenced stores, has been shortlisted in the Best Catering Service category at the Colleges and University Business Officers (CUBO) Awards.

Amanda Shipley, Catering and Retail Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted for this award. The refurbishment was challenging and innovative as it went beyond improving the catering environment, and has enhanced the overall ambience, social zones and outside areas for all.

“The improvement programme was dedicated to creating the best catering service whilst also improving the student experience with supporting social zones. Feedback from students has been phenomenal; all of the catering areas and social areas have been well received and catering transactions have increased significantly.”

The University’s Courtyard Kitchen offers four areas: The Grill for a breakfast offering  in the morning or classic hot lunch options; Street for the very best in street food trends, such as burritos, Greek style Kebabs and Gourmet Burgers; Kitchen Asia for a range of sweet and spicy oriental dishes such as a wok or curry bowl; and Stove for pizza and pasta.

A new Cornerhouse Deli offers a diverse sandwich and salad offering and the Starbucks is very popular among staff and students.

Smart screens line the walls to display promotions, and plug and USB sockets are positioned at every table. Greenery is scattered throughout the space and seating overall has increased from 307 seats to a 511-seater space. Each areas has its own identity, with partitions, stools, comfy seating, even an area for bean bags.

The CUBO Awards will take place on Wednesday 28 June 2017 at the University of Kent.
