Lamp procession to celebrate student nurses

12/01/2017

Student nurses will celebrate the end of their studies at the University of Wolverhampton with a special lamp procession.

Students will carry symbolic Florence Nightingale-style lamps in a procession from the University to St Peter’s Church in Wolverhampton city centre on Thursday, 19 January 2017.

More than 40 students are expected to take part in the event from 7pm which is an opportunity for celebration ahead of the student nurses’ graduation ceremonies.

The ceremony will include experiences and stories from some of the students, as well as poems. An enamel University badge will be presented to all students.

Family and friends are also invited to attend.

BNurs (Hons) Mental Health Nursing student Benjamin Bullows said: “This event is an opportunity to celebrate the success of student nurses in cohort 114 achieving their nursing degree after three years of both academic and placement training.

“The event has been organised by student nurses to give the cohort an opportunity to give their own speeches, poems and accounts of their student nurse journey – it is truly a proud evening for all student nurses taking part.”

It is the fourth time the event has been held by the University.
