27/04/2017

Two University of Wolverhampton staff members have been awarded a prestigious status which recognises excellence in teaching.

Dr Peter Robinson and Dr Megan Lawton have both achieved Principal Fellow status from the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

The title recognises the University’s commitment to delivering the highest standards of teaching.

Dr Peter Robinson is Head of Department for Marketing, Innovation, and Leisure and Enterprise in the Faculty of Social Sciences and his research explores photography, nostalgia, authenticity, urban exploration and visitor experiences. ‌‌

Dr Megan Lawton is Senior Adviser on Academic Practice in the College of Learning and Teaching (CoLT). Her varied work includes academic staff development, transnational education partnerships and dissemination of academic practice.

Dr Robinson said: “I am delighted to have been recognised as a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. This is a reflection of my experience teaching a wide range of students in the UK.  This reflects the development of best practice in learning and teaching, which is embedded in my own work and the ethos of my entire department. A key element of achieving this recognition is the emphasis placed on a commitment to supporting others developing their learning and teaching techniques. I am looking forward to supporting my colleagues in also achieving HEA recognition.”

Dr Lawton said, “I’m thrilled to have achieved Principal fellowship. I’ve been involved in strategic leadership of learning and teaching at the University as a member of a central department for a while. Now as a member of the College of Learning and Teaching (CoLT) I am leading the implementation of the KUDOS CPD scheme helping others gain one of three different fellowships of the HEA. A key aspect of my application is based on developing inclusive curriculum design as I am passionate about enabling both students and staff to reach their potential.

Principal Fellowship of the HEA is awarded to professionals who demonstrate a sustained record of effective strategic leadership in academic practice and academic development contributing to high quality student learning.
