University supports Business Week

20/09/2016

The University of Wolverhampton is supporting a week-long initiative to celebrate and encourage growth and investment in the city.

City of Wolverhampton Business Week takes place from Monday, 26 September to Friday, 30 September 2016 and aims to raise the profile of the city and showcase the support available to businesses.

The University of Wolverhampton is in the middle of an ambitious plan to generate £250m of investment in the region and is a key partner in Business Week.

Major projects include the £100m Springfield Campus, creating a world-class centre of excellence for construction and the built environment, and the new Apprenticeship Hub, which is a one-stop destination for employers, parents, and apprentices to access valuable resources and support.

Throughout the week, University experts will be on hand to provide advice about the support available through Business Solutions and the Growth Hub.

Events supported by the University include a panel debate on Monday, 26 September titled Brexit – What next? and workshops on Tuesday, 27 September centred around enterprise start-ups and export growth in the food, drink and creative sectors.

There will also be workshops on the advanced engineering sector – export opportunities Mexico on Wednesday, 28 September and access to finance – business support on Friday, 30 September 2016.

Professor Ian Oakes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, said: “The University of Wolverhampton is delighted to be a key partner in Business week 2016. We have a long and successful history of supporting new businesses to enable them to grow, develop and compete at a regional, national and international level.

“We are committed to investing in the regional economy and creating opportunities for people to enhance their skills and secure employment. The latest figures show that 96% of our graduates are in employment or further study six months after leaving us, 80% of which choose to stay in the West Midlands so we have a significant role in upskilling the local workforce.

“The University is generating £250m of investment in the region through the Our Vision, Your Opportunity project, which includes the new £100million-plus Springfield Campus development to provide a world-class centre of excellence for construction and the built environment. This will deliver an unbeatable skills pathway for construction education and training, while supporting business growth regionally, nationally and internationally.

“We have also launched an Apprenticeship Hub to help local employers develop their workforce and providing valuable resources and support, including details on available apprenticeship programmes covering a wide variety of trades and professions.

“We are therefore delighted to be part of a Business Week which aims to raise awareness, encourage networking and but also celebrate the city’s achievements.”

Business Week is driven by business representatives in the city, and is a week-long platform of activities and events supporting and celebrating the city’s economic growth.
