Praise for students and graduates at annual awards

The University of Wolverhampton was once again in high spirits for its annual Employment and Volunteering Awards.

The event, which was this year held in the newly refurbished Chancellor’s Hall situated at the University’s City Campus, was organised by ‘The Workplace’ and saw over 150 visitors in attendance.

This is the 6th year that the University has hosted the awards.

On the guest list were nominees, nominators including external organisations, and also staff of the University.

Over 93 students and graduates received awards in a range of different categories including; Student Employee of the Year, Wolverhampton Enterprise and Employability Award, Speed Plus Business of the Year, Graduate Intern award and Graduate Placement award.

The aim of the event was to recognise and celebrate the achievements of both students and graduates, as well as to highlight the various opportunities that can be accessed that can support their future employability.

Among the prize winners were Krista Ball, Hannah Dudley and Matthew Robinson.

Krista, a final year student studying Psychology and Criminal Behaviour, won the ‘Mentor of the Year Award’ for her outstanding work as a volunteer mentor for Trailblazers, helping to prepare young offenders for their release.

Hannah, a recent graduate, won the ‘Graduate Intern of the Year Award’ for her professionalism and supportive nature as a member of the University’s Student Support team; helping to assist learners with their studies.

Matthew, a final year Building Surveying student, won the ‘Student Placement of the Year Award’ for his hard work and positive attitude whilst working on several projects for various clients, including Stonewater Social Housing.

Helene Turley, Head of The Workplace said: “The awards are our way of congratulating our students and graduates for having made a significant contribution locally and beyond through activities undertaken beyond the curriculum.

“It is a great way of celebrating achievements and looking towards future goals.”
