Telford developments see increased demand for University conferencing facilities

06/05/2014

The Priorslee site has recently been given a £500,000 refurbishment to revamp its 460 bedrooms and received a three-star campus accommodation rating from VisitEngland – the second-highest rating for campus sites.

The University works closely with businesses in Telford and awareness of its Priorslee Hall and Telford Innovation conferencing centres is increasing as investment in the town raises its profile.

Emma Furnival, Assistant Director of Hospitality and Accommodation Services at the University, said: “There are a lot of exciting developments around Telford at the moment and we are seeing more demand for our facilities, which are among the biggest in the country.

“We offer residential, meeting rooms and dining, and an increasing number of businesses are coming to us for our services. We already work closely with organisations such as Telford International Centre and Cap Gemini and the new Southwater Development is opening up more opportunities for the future. There are more trade fairs, exhibitions and events being held in the town and we are pleased that the profile of the town is growing.”

The new Southwater Development, a partnership between Telford and Wrekin Council, Southwater Event Group and private sector, will create a vibrant and sustainable heart for Telford Town Centre - including a night time economy.

There will be high quality buildings and public space as well as improved cultural, leisure, retail, and event facilities as well as new homes and offices.

The University has strong links with the developers and is assisting businesses where possible.
