Football club to work with University on events course

23/10/2013

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is just one of a group of companies and organisations which will work with people taking the Masters course in Event and Venue Management.

The post-graduate course will further the skills, understanding and experience of students working or looking to work in the field of event management, organising corporate functions.

And to bolster the experience and knowledge the course will offer through its teaching, the city’s football club, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, along with leading event management firm Congrex, Wolverhampton City Council and the Princes Trust, have all agreed to work with the University to offer their expertise and experience to students.

These organisations will give students on the course opportunities to look at real-life case studies and data for course assessments. The companies will also host internships and work-based projects to supplement the learning they will receive from the University’s teaching staff.

The course is one of two new masters courses being launched by the University this October. The other is an MA in International Hospitality Management, which takes in a range of modules looking at hotel and accommodation management and the role of food in hospitality.

Dr Richard Medcalf, lecturer in the University of Wolverhampton’s School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure, said: “We are delighted to be launching a brand new Postgraduate course that has industry relevance at its heart.

“The course will be taught in partnership with external organisations which span the various sectors of the event and venue industry – ensuring that students will receive an experience that is both credible and relevant.

“By offering part time and distance learning routes, and embedding internships and work based projects into the design of the programme, we have ensured that the course will equip students for a future in this industry.”

Both courses are being run by the University’s School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure at its Walsall campus on either a 12-month full-time basis or two year part-time.
