05/06/2013

Mitchel Emms 2Mitchel sung his way into Danny O’Donoghue’s final three acts for the live shows, which get underway on BBC1 this Friday.

The University of Wolverhampton music student will go head to head with 11 others acts mentored by Tom Jones, Jessie J and Will i. am.

The live shows give the public their first opportunity to have their say on who they want to win the show.

Mitchel (19) from Burntwood, Staffordshire is a first year BA (Hons) Music Technology and Popular Music student and has successfully come through the blind auditions, battle rounds and last weekend’s knockout rounds.

His mum, Ros Hampton, works at the University’s City Campus in the Office of the Dean of Students.

She said: “We are all really excited for Mitchel and will be there cheering him on in his live performance Friday night.  The family are all very nervous but he is taking everything in his stride and is really grateful for the support he has had from the University.”

University of Wolverhampton Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “We’re fully behind Mitchel and we want people from across the Black Country, Shropshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands to back him too.

“It’s great to see a University of Wolverhampton student doing so well on the national stage and showing people what he can do.

“We really hope he can go all the way and win the competition to display to the rest of the UK the rich talent we have in this region.”

The University is also backing Mitchel via social media by posting pictures of people across its campuses showing their support by donning a Mitchel-style wig and urging people to vote for him.

The show is on BBC1 from 7pm on Friday 7 June 2013.
