Special event for the manufacturing industry

The challenges and opportunities facing the manufacturing industry in the West Midlands and Shropshire will be the focus of a conference hosted by the University of Wolverhampton.

Organised in partnership with the Institute of Directors, the Manufacturing Success Conference will take place at the University’s Telford Campus on Wednesday, 14 March 2012.

Highlights will include a presentation on the importance of quality by Jaguar Cars, as well as advice on access to finance, growth through exporting and the future of work through the use of new technology.

Emma Howitt, Corporate Marketing Manager at the University, said: “Despite tough economic conditions manufacturing remains strong in the West Midlands and Shropshire.

“We are holding this event to bring together both manufacturers and support services to discuss the issues they are facing and to get the support they need to move their businesses forward.”

There will also be an exhibition of various support services available to manufacturers including access to finance, skills development and manufacturing support.

Speakers will include Iain McArthur, Manufacturing Quality Manager at Jaguar Cars, Castle Bromwich who will discuss The Importance of Quality; a talk about the state of the economy by Lee Hopley, Chief Economist of the EEF, The Manufacturers Organisation and Doug Mahoney, International Trade Director at UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), who will share his expertise on the subject of growth through exporting.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to tour the University’s rapid manufacturing facilities and two unique technology projects, Innovation 1st and NTAILS, which showcase the practical applications of new technology to business.
