International exhibition comes to Wolverhampton

Over 100 innovative and striking photographs will be on display in Wolverhampton when a leading international print exhibition comes to the city for the first time in its history.

The Royal Photographic Society’s 154th International Print Exhibition will be co-hosted by the University of Wolverhampton’s School of Art & Design and the Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 26 March to 20 May 2012.

Su Fahy, divisional leader for Fine Art and Photography at the University, has received an Associateship of the Society and is organising the event. She said: “Bringing the exhibition to Wolverhampton is an excellent opportunity for students and the public to view this show for the first time and I am also delighted to have one of my own prints selected for the show.”

People can visit the show at the School of Art and Design within the Bessant Gallery, Long Gallery and Foyer of the MK Building and the Wolverhampton Art Gallery between 26 March and 20 May 2012.

The show will be open at the School of Art and Design on weekdays from 10am until 5pm and at Wolverhampton Art Gallery from Monday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm.

To celebrate the exhibition coming to Wolverhampton, Su Fahy has also founded the University’s first wlvfotofest which is a programme of photography events surrounding the exhibition.

Su added: “We hope to run wlvfotofest as a biennial event within Wolverhampton to showcase photography in the region and create a forum for discussion.”

wlvfotofest events include an open lecture series starting with the Pinhole Photography Lecture by photographer Justin Quinnell on Tuesday, 27 March 2012 from 11am to1pm.

Artist and photographer Ann Walker will discuss ‘exploring identity’ on Thursday, 29 March 2012 from 11am to 1pm.

There will also be student workshops and exhibitions around Birmingham and Wolverhampton, and a Photographers Forum will take place in May.
