Scholarships awarded to new students

20/08/2012

The University of Wolverhampton has announced that it has offered more than 600 scholarships to new students to help them financially through their studies.

A total of 420 National Scholarships were awarded to new UK/EU students due to start at the University in the coming academic year in September.

The scholarship is awarded to high achieving students whose household income in less than £25,000.

Around 200 Distinction Scholarships have also been awarded. These are given to new UK/EU students who have achieved AAB at A-level or equivalent.

Both scholarships are worth up to £3,500 to students in their first year and are made up of: £1,000 in cash, £1,000 off their fees and a further £1,000 fee waiver or £1,500 off accommodation fees.

Pro Vice Chancellor Jane Nelson said: “It is vital to be able to offer scholarships to students for a number of reasons.

“For those who may come from a low income household, it can make the difference to them choosing to come to University and really help them through their studies.

“Also it’s important to recognise excellence and achievement in a person’s studies.

“We realise that going to University is not for everyone but for those that do choose to come it can vastly improve their life chances and give them a huge step up onto the ladder for future career success.”

For all 2012 full-time undergraduate UK entrants the University also offers a Continuing Achievement Reward, which enables students who successfully complete each year of study to claim a £1,000 fee waiver when they enrol for the following year and eventually graduate.
