University hosts Japanese Olympics day for young pupils

03/06/2011

The University is hosting a Japanese and Martial Arts Day for Year 8 pupils at the Walsall Campus on Friday 10th June.

The event is being run in conjunction with the Gifted and Talented scheme, which is a government initiative set up to improve education for young people with academic abilities significantly ahead of their year group.

Amy Allen, Operations and Events Coordinator at Language Networks for Excellence, said: “We have already run a number of Gifted and Talented events in the Spring of 2011 which reached over 100 pupils in the region.

“The University hopes the day will develop pupils’ understanding of the Japanese language and culture through a number of practical activities, whilst also providing an opportunity to visit a higher education institution and see the facilities available.”

Up to 40 Gifted and Talented pupils from across the region are invited to attend and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The event is one of a range of Olympic themed functions in held across the UK in June and July in association with the West Midlands Excellence Hub to celebrate National Olympics in Schools day.

If you know someone who could be eligible to attend, please contact Amy Allen at amy.allen@wlv.ac.uk
