Enterprising student takes to the global stage

Postgraduate student Waqas Baggia attended the global event in Canada to talk about enterprise in the UK.

Waqas, 25, and fellow student Zeeshan Chaudhry are Directors of Kreative Iron, a digital media design and development company based at Wolverhampton Science Park. They are both on the University’s SPEED WM (Student Placements for Entrepreneurs in Education West Midlands) programme, which enables students to establish their own business alongside their studies.

Waqas, originally from Toronto, Canada and now living in Wolverhampton, is studying towards a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Wolverhampton Business School, while Zeeshan is an MA Digital Media student at the School of Art & Design.

Waqas, who was named one of the Future 100 Young Social Entrepreneurs for 2009, said: “It has been an honour to be at the forefront of entrepreneurship promotion and to contribute to global entrepreneurship strategy. Young entrepreneurs are key to economic development as they contribute fresh perspectives and develop innovative solutions to their respected industries.

“Being a serial entrepreneur myself, I understand the challenges a young entrepreneur faces and am passionate about developing a more supportive entrepreneurship environment especially for young entrepreneurs.”

Waqas was invited to attend by Enterprise UK and the Institute of Directors as part of the UK delegation at the event.

The inaugural G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit, from June 20-22, aimed to gain global commitment to the role of youth entrepreneurship in shaping future economies. It celebrated the successes of young entrepreneurs, identified the challenges facing them, and aimed to highlight the importance of youth enterprise to the attention of the G20 leaders. It is hoped the Young Entrepreneur Summit will become an annual event that will be held in conjunction with the official G20 Summit.
