Warm welcome for new students

10/09/2009

The University and Union is gearing up for thousands of new arrivals from this weekend and a special Welcome Roadshow will take place at halls of residence on Sunday (SEP13).

The Union will be holding different activities and events every day to help new students settle in to life at the University.

A Freshers’ Fayre will be held on Tuesday, with freebies, student offers, sports demos and societies showcase. There will also be a Picnic in the Park, Athletic Union team trials and a trip to Alton Towers later in the week.

The Students’ Union has teamed up with clubs and bars in Wolverhampton and Walsall for special student nights throughout the week.

And a coffee morning is being held in the Union on Friday for mature students who want to socialise in a relaxed environment.

A special “Walsall Wednesday” at the town’s campus will include inflatable sumo wrestling, and fun games such as giant jenga.

Students’ Union President Bally Singh said: “Arriving at University for the first time can be really daunting for students, especially international students. We want to ensure all new students enjoy their first week at University and have a memorable experience.

“To help them settle in and make new friends, we have organised a spectacular week of activities and entertainment for everyone to get involved in. It’s going to be the best Welcome Week yet.”
