Student films shortlisted for top awards

14/10/2009

It is the second year running that films produced by School of Art & Design students have been shortlisted for the awards.

James Prankard, from the BA (Hons) Animation course, produced 'Billie and Millie', which is shortlisted for Best Animation. The film is a tale of pirates and imagination for all ages, in which the title characters explore an attic and find far more than they had expected.

BA (Hons) Video & Film Production students Will Beard, Lambros Panayi, David Shakespeare and Matvejs Terentjevs produced 'Earthbound', which has been shortlisted for Best Drama. This is the story of an angel who falls to earth and finds difficulty in fulfilling his mission.

Phil Nichols, Course Leader of Video & Film Production, said: “Once again our students have shown that their creative work is among the best in the region. We are delighted by their success, and look forward to supporting them on awards night.”

Each film is up against two other nominees from other universities and colleges. The winners will be announced at a black-tie event at Birmingham Town Hall on October 29.

Last year, students clinched three of the top prizes at the awards. The submissions won in both Animation and Drama categories, with the drama also picking up the award for Best Student Film.
