New website to showcase Midlands Tales

28/07/2008

Tales from the Middle (www.tftm.org.uk) is the brainchild of Patrick Robotham, an author who has recently retired as Dean of the University of Wolverhampton’s School of Applied Sciences.

After experiencing firsthand the pitfalls of finding a publisher, before his first novel ‘Scrap’ was taken on, he felt there needed to be an outlet for promising writers to have their work read by a wider audience.

He decided to focus on the Midlands area as the area has a rich atmosphere and history and has not received its fair share of coverage in modern fiction. It will also give local writers a chance to showcase their stories.

Pat Robotham, aged 57 currently lives near Uttoxeter, having worked and lived for 30 years in Burton, Stoke, Derby and Wolverhampton, said: “There are a lot of exceptional writers who haven’t been published. It is a very competitive and difficult field so I decided to create an outlet where their work could be read.

“I’m hoping to create a short story writers’ community, with people contributing to it on a regular basis.”

He is currently looking for contributors and plans to get new stories on the site every month, with all going into an archive which can be accessed.

He also hopes to gain support in the future from well-known Midlands writers once the site is fully under way.

Anyone who has an idea for a story should provide Pat with a 500 word synopsis for him to consider. He will manage the site and maintain editorial control.

Stories should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words and there will be no cost to writers, who will retain all of their rights to their work
