The Centre for Developmental and Applied Research in Education (CeDARE) uses its research to improve education and teaching, both locally and nationally, making use of the latest digital technology to do so.
The centre is based within the University’s School for Education Futures.
Research at CeDARE aims to:
There are four key themes to CeDARE’s work:
Collaborative Leadership & Learning – looking at the issues of leadership, exchanging social capital and evaluating the impacts of a wide range of collaborations. Researchers at CeDARE advised local and national governments on how to develop more collaborative educational systems.
Digital Media, Video & Change – video and other digital media are used within a wide range of research projects within CeDARE. The centre creates video case studies to show the results of its research, along with using websites and other digital media to let people know about it.
Curriculum & Pedagogy – focussing on innovative practice in curriculum and teaching, primarily in schools. This has so far included reflective practice for teachers, ICT and games-based learning, and new approaches to learning and teaching in science
Children, Families & Communities – CeDARE are at the forefront of research in a number of key areas in this field, notably early childhood education, bullying, young people’s sense of identity, and schools’ approaches to health.
